Division 1 candidate Mark Hammel calls on Gold Coasters to vote for councillors with vision to get city through turbulent economic times ahead

Division 1 candidate Mark Hammel has announced a economic, business and job creation strategy that aims to help lift the Gold Coast out of an impending recession triggered by the coronavirus pandemic. Mr Hammel said the coming months were critical for the Gold Coast economy, and that council would not be able to rest on its economic plans of the past or present. He said a multi-faceted economic plan would require councillors to work collaboratively together with all levels of government to shield the northern Gold Coast and wider city from the impacts of a recession.

Division 1 candidate Mark Hammel announces plan to fight crime and hooning on far northern Gold Coast

Division 1 candidate Mark Hammel will, if elected, lobby the State Government to fast-track construction of the new Pimpama police hub, and ensure it has more police officers to fight rising levels of crime and hooning on the far northern Gold Coast. Mr Hammel said construction had not yet started on the police hub, which had an expected completion date of 2021. He said an empty block of land was doing nothing to keep communities safe in Division 1 now.

Division 1 candidate Mark Hammel calls for bus and cycle lanes on Coomera Connector

Division 1 candidate Mark Hammel is calling for dedicated bus lanes and cycle ways for the Coomera Connector as part of a new plan that would improve local access to public transport and ease pressure on congested far northern Gold Coast roads that have reached choking point. As part of a traffic plan developed in consultation with urban planning experts, Mr Hammel has today released the comprehensive Division 1 public transport plan he will be taking to the local council election on March 28.

COOMERA CONNECTOR NOT A SILVER BULLET TO FIX DIVISION 1’S TRAFFIC WOES

The Coomera Connector is a vital piece of infrastructure however it is ‘not a silver bullet’ that will solve the Division 1’s traffic issues, according to recently announced Division 1 candidate in the Gold Coast 2020 local election, Mark Hammel. Mr Hammel congratulated local and State governments for green-lighting works on the Nerang to Coomera section of the Gold Coast’s ‘second M1’, but said an ‘integrated traffic solution’ was required to prepare Division 1 for anticipated residential and business growth.
